KACY HILL PREMIERES NEW TRACK, “LION,” ON G.O.O.D. MUSIC / DEF JAM RECORDINGS
“LION,” PRODUCED BY STUART PRICE, FOLLOWS UP “FOREIGN FIELDS” AND “ARM’S LENGTH” SINGLES FROM ACCLAIMED DEBUT EP, BLOO
FIRST ADVANCE TRACK FROM DEBUT ALBUM TO BE RELEASED THIS FALL
“Hill sings about a lying lover, pain and anger…she groans over percussive, looming beats. It’s truly a scorcher of a number, and one that definitely drums up excitement for the G.O.O.D. Music signee’s debut album, which is set to drop later this year.” – Idolator
(July 8, 2016 – New York, NY) Earlier this week, buzzworthy G.O.O.D. Music artist Kacy Hill premiered her new single “Lion” with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 as a World First and was simultaneously announced as one of the faces of the new Calvin Klein fall 2016 campaign. “Lion” – produced by Stuart Price (known for his work with Madonna, the Killers, Gwen Stefani, and Missy Elliott) – becomes available on Spotify, Apple Music and all digital platforms. Introducing “Lion” – the first advance track from Kacy’s upcoming debut album – Zane Lowe raved: “Sounds amazing…she’s going to have a very busy year…look out for her.” Kacy has been named a Spotify ’Spotlight Artist’ for 2016.
“Lion is one of the most aggressive tracks off the album,” said Kacy. “It speaks rather shamelessly about my own tendency to shroud feelings of guilt in defensiveness.”
The animated artwork for “Lion” premiered on Billboard.com. On the artwork, shot by longtime collaborator Shae DeTar, Kacy shares: “The visuals for ‘Lion’ were shot in my hometown of Phoenix, Arizona and focus on romanticism in the American Dream and the nostalgia of growing up in the desert.”
Kacy Hill – spotted early by outlets like Vogue, W, Interview and described by New York magazine as “one to watch” – continues on the road supporting artist-producer Jack Garratt, with whom she’s been touring for much of 2016. After successful legs across the U.S., UK & Ireland, they head to Australia in July for intimate venue dates and Kacy’s debut at renowned Australian festival, Splendour in the Grass.
Kacy caught the attention of pop cognoscenti earlier this year when she reached Top 5 on Spotify’s Global Viral Top 50 chart with “Foreign Fields,” from her debut EP, BLOO. She wrote the stripped down, airy track with Garratt after he was matched with her in the studio by famed producer and Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin. Kacy characterized the song as about “exploring new space in your life and surrounding yourself with people that encourage you to push past a comfort zone.” The “Foreign Fields” video was directed by legendary fashion photographer Rankin.
With a ton of support from Annie Mac, Nick Grimshaw, Phil Taggart and the entire BBC Radio 1 team “Foreign Fields” was followed up by “Shades of Blue,” another track from BLOO, which was premiered by Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 show as a World First. The release of “Foreign Fields” prompted a major profile in Interview magazine, which praised Kacy’s “creative vision,” and characterized BLOO as “a collection of five genre-blurring songs that stem from the experiences and struggles of everyday life, but transcend banality through poetic lyricism.” Read the full-length Interview profile HERE. Earlier, BLOO was hailed by Vulture as “a compact collection of songs and remixes that embody [Kacy’s] quick transition from West Coast no-name to one of the year’s most promising new artists.” Read the full-length Vulture profile HERE.
As a member of the Vanessa Beecroft-curated performance troupe for Kanye West’s Yeezus tour of 2013-2014, Kacy fell in love with music. Shortly thereafter, she debuted “Experience” to critical raves. She soon found herself named as one of Dazed & Confused’s most exciting creative artists for 2015, and was subsequently signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music.
