Although he came into 2016 with a No. 1 album, a top 10 single and multiple tours already under his belt, the Canadian singer-songwriter spent the year spinning teen stardom into something even sturdier.
Shawn Mendes followed up 2015’s debut Handwritten with Illuminate, which includes; “Treat You Better,” another top 10 smash on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as “Mercy,” both of which he performed on many shows and TVs as well. Moreover, his first headlining tour in support of Handwritten earlier in 2016 has led to the Illuminate world tour, sets to hit arenas beginning next spring.
“Treat You Better,” the debut single from his highly anticipated sophomore album Illuminate, was released back in September 23rd on Island Records. Directed by Ryan Pallotta and filmed at a remote motel just outside of New York City, the “Treat You Better” video features Shawn as both a narrator and protagonist, telling the story of a girl stuck in a relationship gone bad while he desperately tries to find a way to get through to her and help.
